Unpacking…does it ever end?

I would have to say my least favorite part about moving is the unpacking. It feels like there is no end in sight. Where to put things? Did I move things I no longer want? Does this look good here or there? These are all questions that come with a recent move and unpacking.

We decided to sell several pieces of furniture before our move. We thought when we moved into our new home we could get something new that would fit the space perfectly. Well…that has been a good and bad part about the unpacking process. Our family has picked out several new pieces of furniture, however due to the demands of the world we are currently living in many items are backordered. I am waiting on a piece of furniture in nearly every room of the house. I have boxes still in every room that I could unpack but I don’t have the furniture needed to put the items away. So needless to say, I am about ready to banish the unpacked boxes to the basement so that I don’t have to look at them any longer. I suppose that is an added bonus for our new home, we have a basement which is rare here in Arizona.

The next door app has been very helpful though in learning my new neighborhood and also finding someone who is moving and in need of boxes. As I unpack boxes she is ready to take them. Each week I message her, then she comes to collect the boxes that we have managed to get through for the week. It is a win, win. I don’t have to toss all my boxes and packing paper into the trash or find a recycling center and she doesn’t have to pay the high prices of packing materials. When we put out the boxes out for her to come by and collect I can feel a sense of accomplishment, brief as it may be. Then it is back inside to look at the overwhelming stacks of boxes still left to sort through.
